Men's Fraternity
Have you ever just gone up to a man and asked him point blank - "What's your definition of what it is to be a man?" If so, you would be surprised how many blank stares you might get. Many men out there just do not know how to answer this question.
In this day and age, true authentic Biblical manhood is under assault from our culture. It has become politically correct and expedient for our culture to teach that men and women are the same, when in fact, men and women are not the same. We are created differently, each with our own sets of gifts, which complement each other. These movements, such as the radical feminist movement, have found their way into much of the media that we watch, and this has caused men to become somewhat confused about what real manhood is all about. And as a result of the men being confused, it also causes problems within the entire family structure.
Men's Fraternity is a curriculum written by Robert Lewis, an evangelical teaching pastor in Little Rock, Arkansas and a football player for the Arkansas Razorbacks. The purpose of Men's Fraternity is to provide a place where men of all ages can come together in fellowship and study. Men study a Biblical definition of what manhood should be by contrasting Adam, from the book of Genesis, to Jesus Christ (as the new Adam).
The Men's Fraternity curriculum answers the question that I posed above: "An authentically Biblical man is one who rejects passivity, accepts responsibility, leads courageously, and expects the greater reward, God's reward."
Are you looking to live out this definition of manhood in your life? If so, Men's Fraternity is just right for you. For more information, please contact Fr. Townsend Waddill at (225) 766-8314, Ext. 200, or email him at twaddill@saintmargarets.com.
What Men's Fraternity Does
- Teaches men what "baggage" they might be carrying from earlier points in their life so that they can empty that baggage out and start fresh.
- Uses a Biblical model - mostly centered around two men: Adam and Jesus - to teach the true authentic definition of manhood. The model generally uses Adam as an example of poor Biblical manhood, and uses Jesus as the example of an authentic Christian man.
- Teaches men how to instill these same values in both their sons and daughters. For men with grown children or no children, the program encourages them to become mentors.
- Finishes up the first year by completing the preparation of a "Manhood Plan" tailored to each individual person.
- Provides for men a small group environment where they can discuss among men the issues that they face.
What Men's Fraternity Does Not Do
- Men's Fraternity is not out to undo the advances that women have made in the 20th century. It does not seek in any way to oppress women, to teach men that their wives should not have careers, or to teach men that they are to "rule over" their wives. In fact, the Men's Fraternity curriculum frowns upon this as not being compatible with scripture.
