Upcoming Rector’s Forum at St. Margaret’s: Engaging Conversations on Race and Evangelism

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church is excited to announce two compelling Rector’s Forums this spring, featuring distinguished guest speakers who will inspire, challenge, and enrich our faith journey. These forums provide a unique opportunity for meaningful dialogue on topics that shape our lives as followers of Christ and members of a diverse and evolving society.

March 2025: Dialogue on Race with Maxine Crump

🏛 Title/Role: President & CEO, Dialogue on Race Louisiana

Maxine Crump, a trailblazer in the work of racial reconciliation and equity, will lead a powerful conversation on the ongoing pursuit of racial justice. As the President and CEO of Dialogue on Race Louisiana, she brings decades of experience in fostering understanding and meaningful change.

With a distinguished career spanning journalism, public relations, and media development, Crump has dedicated her life to advocacy and education. She was the first African American woman to live in an LSU dormitory and has worked in broadcast news at WXOK, WFMF radio, WAFB TV, and BET News. Through her leadership at Dialogue on Race Louisiana, she continues to guide communities toward honest and transformative conversations about race. This forum will explore how faith communities can take an active role in dismantling racism and building bridges of understanding and unity.

April 2025: Evangelism in the Episcopal Church with The Rev. Troy D. Mendez

The Rev. Troy D. Mendez will lead a thought-provoking discussion on the evolving landscape of evangelism in the Episcopal Church. As the Executive Director of the Episcopal Evangelism Society, he is passionate about innovative approaches to sharing the Gospel in today’s world.

With over a decade of experience as the Dean of Trinity Cathedral in Phoenix, Rev. Mendez has served on the boards of both Virginia Theological Seminary and the General Theological Seminary. His deep commitment to ministry is rooted in joy, hospitality, and a desire to see the Episcopal Church embrace all people with a sense of belonging, dignity, and the transformative grace of Jesus Christ. This forum will explore fresh and creative ways to invite others into a life of faith.

Both forums will take place at 9:00 AM in Lyle Hall as part of our ongoing Rector’s Forum series, held on the first Sunday of each month. These gatherings offer a space for open discussion, learning, and spiritual growth.
