Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee of St. Margaret’s coordinates fundraising and volunteer opportunities so that we might live into the command of our Lord to love others as God has loved us. The Committee is tasked to give attention to the local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice and advocacy.

For more information about how to donate for outreach ministry, contact anyone on our Outreach Committee.

Lester Mut, Elizabeth Perry, Catherine Buck, Taryn Couvillion, Debby Apcar

Jenny Hastings, Linsey Miller, Michele Fuselier

The Outreach Committee has re-envisioned our Serving People in Need (SPIN) Ministry! The new SPIN will take on a slightly different mission. St. Margaret’s is collaborating with St. John’s United Methodist Church and their food pantry called The Shepherd’s Market. Members of the committee visited the Market and were impressed with the ministry’s organization and the extent of the assistance provided to those in need.

The committee’s plan is to continue collecting non-perishable food as we did for the emergency food boxes. The list of needed items below is much more accessible and household items and toiletries are also needed. Collection baskets will be located in the Narthex of the church.

Volunteers are also welcome to staff the Market on distribution days, which are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 11am. Contact Michele Fuselier at 337.654.6220 for details. The committee is also working on other ways to expand the new SPIN very soon.

The Shepherd’s Market is a client-choice food pantry serving the hungry and needy in south Baton Rouge. We have been operating for more than nine years. In that time we’ve opened more than 2,700 unduplicated files, each representing a different family. We serve 380 families per month and distribute 23,000 pounds of food per month. The Shepherd’s Market serves 35 families per day. Our focus area includes zip codes 70808, 70809, 70810 and 70820, but we serve any family in need.
